What a busy term we've had to kick of 2023! The students have been continuing their learning by working hard in the studio, working toward a jam-packed exam season whilst having fun along the way. Check out what we've been up to and our recent news below:
Exam Success
ISTD Modern Exam Results
We were thrilled to kick off our first face to face ISTD exam session since the pandemic in February. After nearly 3 years of filming examinations it was wonderful to return to the live experience! Having an examiner in the room really does enhance the occasion and for these young people. All of our students gave their all and came out the studio with excited smiles and a sense of achievement.
Check out this lovely picture of our first group of the week here of our Grade 2’s and our examiner, Miss Conroy Jones
ATAP Results
Huge congratulations must go to our students who recently received their Royal Ballet School ATAP Level 2 and Level 3 results! These students were the first in the world to take these brand new Royal Ballet School ATAP exams for Level 2 and 3 which combine the traditional exam experience with the study of repertoire and a creative element to give a holistic dance training. We are very proud of both pupils and teachers for being part of this innovative approach.
SQA Exams
Our Higher & Nat 5 students have done an outstanding job over the year preparing for their SQA examination which took place in March. Pupils from S3 - S6 performed brilliantly in their solos and original choreography pieces. Congratulations to all of our students for putting in an incredible amount of work and effort. Just the question paper exam to come in May - good luck everyone!
DC Modern Awards
Our junior students from Primary 1 to Primary 3 had a blast taking part in the Danscentre Modern Awards in March. For many of these young students, this was their first assessment experience and they all came out of the studio delighted with their achievements. Well done to all involved.
NPA Jazz Assessment
This term some of our Grade 5 Modern students have been studying the SQA NPA Jazz Unit. This Unit is part of a National Progression group award at level 5 and the group completed the practical NPA Jazz assessment recently with Miss Louis. Fantastic work from all and we look forward to receiving their written work on the history of Jazz and the work of Bob Fosse to complete the unit very soon.
RAD & ISTD Exams
Huge congratulations must go to our students who took part in our ISTD and RAD Exam session in March. Everyone left the studios happy and exhausted! For some this was their first exam experience while for others it marked the final exam in their journey from preschool to Grade 8/Intermediate level. Many of these pupils will go on to tertiary level education after summer and marked their last year at Danscentre by achieving their goals at the final Grade for RAD and the first professional level Modern exam. Check out the gallery of pictures below from the week:
Feature Week: Non Uniform
For this term's Feature Week, we held a non-uniform week in February, encouraging all students to express their personalities through their dancewear by wearing previous dance costumes, fashion leotards, ballet skirts, shorts/leggings and t-shirts. The effort you all put in was brilliant, and it was great seeing you dress to express!
Destinations 2023
Danscentre had the fantastic opportunity to perform at Y Dance: Destinations which took place at the Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on Saturday 18 February. Destinations is a showcase of the best youth dance companies from across Scotland with up to 14 groups performing as well as the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland. It was a brilliant day out and all students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Feature Week
We are excited to announce our upcoming Feature Week for Term 4 is focusing on Inspiration. This is to encourage our students to explore who or what inspires them to dance and discussing this within classes at DC. Students can create a poster describing their inspiration which we will then display at Danscentre! The week will begin on Monday 15 to Saturday 20 May.
